Flood warning for North West with ex-Tropical Cyclone Hilda on the move

COMMUNITIES in parts of the Pilbara, Midwest-Gascoyne and Goldfields-Midlands have been told to prepare for flash flooding as ex-Tropical Cyclone Hilda moves towards WA’s interior.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services issued a severe weather warning this morning as the low continues to track south.

At 4am it was around 50km east of Parnngurr in the Pilbara, heading south at about 10km/h.

While the 120km/h wind gusts that battered Broome and parts of the Kimberley earlier this week have subsided, the system is still dumping heavy rainfall.

In the event of flooding, DFES advises affected residents to unplug all electrical appliances and to create sandbags from pillow cases which should be placed around doorways.

Some roads may also be closed and drivers are warned to avoid water of unknown depth and current.
