Peru: President Boluarte attends Mario Vargas Llosa's wake

President Dina Boluarte on Monday afternoon visited the residence of Peruvian writer Mario Vargas Llosa, in Lima's Barranco district, where the remains of the Nobel Prize in Literature laureate, who passed away last Sunday, are being privately waked.

Accompanying the Head of State were Cabinet Chief Gustavo Adrianzen, as well as Ministers Elmer Schialer (Foreign Affairs), Walter Astudillo (Defense), Jose Salardi (Economy-Finance), Leslie Urteaga (Development-Social Inclusion), and Fabricio Valencia (Culture).

Alvaro Vargas Llosa, son of the world-renowned Peruvian author, received the top official, who paid her respects to the writer's memory.

The remains of the Nobel Prize in Literature winner are being waked in strict privacy at his residence.

The family stated that there will be no public ceremony to bid him farewell.

His remains will be cremated, in accordance with the wishes of the novelist born in the southern city of Arequipa in 1936.


She said that the most universal of Peruvians, author of monumental works, leaves an indelible mark in the history of literature and is being mourned by Peru and the world.
