New MSC World America includes Puerto Plata in its Caribbean itinerary

The Italian shipping company MSC inaugurated its new ship MSC World America, which will depart on its first cruise on April 12, 2025 and will spend its inaugural season sailing from Port Miami, on alternate 7-night itineraries through the Eastern and Western Caribbean, with stops in Puerto Plata (Dominican Republic); San Juan (Puerto Rico); Costa Maya and Cozumel (Mexico); Roatan Island (Honduras) and, on all voyages, a visit to Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve.
The ship will be one of the largest in the world and is the second prototype of MSC Cruises’ World Class, following the inauguration of MSC World Europe in Doha (Qatar) in 2022.
The new cruise ship, which can accommodate up to 6,762 passengers and 2,138 crew, has 2,614 staterooms and offers more than 38,400 square meters of public space. Its spaces and concepts fuse European style with American comfort.
MSC World America is the Italian shipping line’s first ship to have seven districts on board, each with its own ambiance, new facilities and experiences, designed to help guests choose their own vacation experience and optimize their time on board.
Actress Drew Barrymore is the godmother of MSC World America, christening it with the cutting of a ribbon breaking a bottle on the bow of the ship, in a maritime tradition that wishes her good fortune. She will be joined by Orlando Bloom, who co-stars with Drew in MSC Cruises’ “Let’s Holiday” advertising campaign, which premiered during the Super Bowl earlier this year.
“It’s a great honor to be the godmother of MSC World America, and I’m excited to cut that ribbon tonight and wish the ship smooth seas and good fortune for many years to come,” Barrymore said.
She added, “I have always had a passion for travel, which has nurtured my soul and left me with incredible memories. Millions of people will create their own memories aboard this beautiful ship over time, and I am sure they will have an incredible time experiencing all that MSC World America has to offer.”
According to El Tiempo, following the unveiling ceremony, passengers will embark on a two-night voyage to celebrate this milestone, bound for MSC Cruises’ private island in the Bahamas, Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve.
