Like her head coach at Arizona, Adia Barnes, UA center Breya Cunningham is taking her talents to the state of Texas, but is heading to Austin instead of Dallas.
Cunningham signed with the Texas Longhorns on Saturday and joins a Texas program fresh off its run to the Final Four. Texas is led by four-time SEC Coach of the Year Vic Schaefer.
Cunningham, a 6-4, San Diego-area product and McDonald’s All-American, was a part of Arizona’s 2023 recruiting class that had three five-star players: Cunningham, point guard Jada Williams and Las Vegas wing Montaya Dew, who is one of two scholarship players on Arizona’s current roster under first-year head coach Becky Burke. Arizona recently added guard Noelani Cornfield, who played for Burke at Buffalo, in the transfer portal on Friday.

Arizona forward Breya Cunningham (25) looks for room to get past the pressure from Texas forward Taylor Jones (44) at McKale Center, on Dec. 13, 2023.
Williams and Cunningham were teammates at La Jolla Country Day School and the UA for two seasons. Cunningham averaged 9.3 points and 5.8 rebounds in two seasons with the Wildcats. Arizona lost to fifth-ranked Texas at McKale Center in Cunningham’s freshman season. She had 12 points, five rebounds and three steals in 18 minutes.
Cunningham was one of 10 scholarship Wildcats to enter the transfer portal following this past season.
Guards Paulina Paris and Mailien Rolf forward Sahnya Jah, who transferred to Arizona from South Carolina last year, followed Barnes to SMU. Williams transferred to Iowa State.
