Lancaster community hosts vigil for victims of Dominican Republic roof collapse
In Lancaster County, the community came together to remember more than 200 victims who died after a nightclub roof collapsed in the Dominican Republic.
On Tuesday, the roof of a popular Dominican Republic nightclub collapsed during a concert. One hundred and nine people were rescued and more than 200 were injured. The death toll is currently at 221.
On Saturday, the Dominican Association of Lancaster and the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home paired up to host a memorial service for everyone who lost their lives at the Jet Set Night Club.
During the service, they read aloud the names of every victim and had signs that translated to "one heart."
The day was a chance for the community to not only grieve together but to unite and honor those who died and the families that are suffering from the tragedy.
"When we are crying, we cry together also today. That's why we are here. We are grieving and we want to make sure that all of us can have a secure place, a safe place," said Dominican Association President Zarita Herasme.
