CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - The past week has brought some wild weather to the Carolinas, with record-breaking temperatures, rounds of rain and currently, a bit of a cool-off.

As we get further into spring, though, and temperatures are generally warming up, WBTV meteorologists Al Conklin and Eric Garlick looked ahead to what could be coming in the next weeks and months.

Part of their look-ahead included the upcoming hurricane season.

Colorado State University’s hurricane forecast -- which is widely cited by meteorologists nationwide -- projects 17 named storms will pop up in the Atlantic Ocean during the 2025 hurricane season. That is slightly above normal, but is down from the 2024 forecast.

We’re still about a month and a half out from the official start of hurricane season, which runs from June 1 through Nov. 30.
