B.C.’s Best Places to Find Tiki Drinks and Tropical Cocktails

Beachy cocktails from B.C. restaurants and bars

From The Shameful Tiki Room in Vancouver to Citrus & Cane in Victoria, here’s where to find the best tiki drinks and tropical cocktails this side of an all-inclusive resort.

The Shameful Tiki Room

Vancouver
This beloved Main Street destination channels a bygone era with its funky tiki decor and extensive cocktail menu, including favourites such as the Blue Hawaii, Hurricane, Daiquiri, Mai Tai, Singapore Sling and Zombie. Bring a likeminded pal (or several) to help you sip from one of the huge rum-based bowls: the Mystery Bowl—its arrival is heralded by a gong—includes four ounces of alcohol, while the Blood of the Kapu Tiki Bowl has eight ounces and the smoky Volcano Bowl has a mind-boggling ten ounces. On the food menu, popular items include Hawaiian-style pork ribs, tuna poke, samosas and the Pu Pu Platter of snacks for four.

The Flamingo Room

Vancouver
Bring a whole flock of friends to The Flamingo Room on Commercial Drive, which boasts live music, tasty snacks and a Miami vibe. Quench your thirst with classics such as a Mojito, Hemingway Daiquiri, Painkiller or Spicy Mezcalita. Or try one of the signature drinks, including a Milano Vice, Flightless Bird, Ain’t She a Peach or Melon Felon.

Raglan’s

North Vancouver
Raglan’s has been bringing a beachy-surf-shack vibe to Lower Lonsdale for a quarter of a century. Grab a board game, order some burgers and nachos and settle in with a Blue Hawaiian, Mai Tai, Drunken Samurai, Zombie Warrior, Mojito, Margarita, Tropical Sangria or Pina Colada—those are just a few of the popular choices from the extensive drinks menu. The largest tiki drinks contain five ounces of alcohol and are designed to be shared by at least two revellers.

Sons of Vancouver Distillery

North Vancouver
After managing the bar at The Shameful Tiki Room for more than seven years, Shea Hogan brought his prodigious tiki talents to run Surf’s Up Sundays at Sons of Vancouver on the North Shore. Now, every Sunday at the distillery feels like a mini tropical vacation, complete with enticing tiki tipples. Hogan’s most popular creation is the Thunder Gun Express, which has 11 ingredients, including five different spirits.

Haven Kitchen and Bar

Langley
Poke, tempura coconut prawns, and short ribs pair perfectly with cocktails such as a Painkiller, Zombie, Tourist, Castaway, Jungle Bird and Escapism—all available every day, and discounted on Tiki Tuesdays. The extensive drinks menu also features an assortment of mouthwatering margaritas, from passionfruit to hot honey guava to coconut mint.

Born to Shake

Kelowna
This combination cocktail bar and retail store on Vaughan Avenue has the goal of making mixology approachable for regular folks. To help neophyte bartenders stock their home bars, the shop sells syrups, bitters, rimmers and cocktail kits, all made in small batches in the Okanagan. On Tropical Thursdays, the place transforms into a tiki bar complete with local DJs and drinks such as a Blue Hawaiian, Port Light, Saturn, Painkiller and Zombie.

Citrus & Cane

Victoria
Citrus & Cane brings stellar ingredients and modern techniques to the fine art of building cocktails. The lengthy drinks list is divided into sections such as Tropical Cocktails (1944 Mai Tai, Public Enemy Number Rum), Don Draper’s World Tour (Puerto Rican Weekend, Tijuana Spring Break) and Feeling Boujee? (Boujee Cognac Colada, Cadillac Margarita). This popular Douglas Street spot landed on the list of Canada’s 100 best bars in 2023 and 2024.

Tora Tiki

Victoria
From the tropical decor to the menu full of classic tiki cocktails served in kitschy glassware, this lively spot on Cormorant Street has it all—and a karaoke room, too. Be sure to try one of the extra-chill tiki drinks, such as the Tiki Slushy or the Dole Whip Float, then share a flaming Freakin’ Volcano bowl with a friend.
