PARKERSBURG — Huntington High’s boys and girls track teams won titles at the Kim Nutter Invitational at Parkersburg’s Stadium Field on Friday.
The Highlanders girls finished with 146 points, 20 more than the runner-up Big Reds. John Marshall was third with 82, followed by Tyler Consolidated with 59, Winfield 57, Hurricane 56, Point Pleasant 45, St. Marys 44, Parkersburg and Elkins each with 35, Liberty Harrison 11, Wahama 8 and Covenant 6.
Huntington High’s boys totaled 140 points to outdistance Parkersburg by 10. Hurricane was third with 90, ahead of Point Pleasant with 83, Elkins 55, John Marshall 47, Wahama 44, Tyler Consolidated 36, Parkersburg South 28, Winfield and St. Marys each with 23 and Liberty Harrison 2.
The Highlanders’ Siraye Harper was girls high-point performer with 30. She set a meet record in the 100 in 12.59 seconds, beating the 12.70 set by Akron Buchtel’s Nevaeh Lewis in 2021. Harper also won the 200 in a meet-record 26.29, eclipsing Lewis’ 26.46.
Hurricane’s Jai’Den Smith earned high-point honors (30.5) for the boys on the strength of his wins in the 110 hurdles over Parkersburg South runner-up Jordan Foster (15.24 seconds to 15.77) and in the long jump over Huntington’s Avonte Crawford (21-5 to 20-8) while also taking runner-up honors in the 300 hurdles to Huntington’s Carter Geveke (40.64-40.79), reported the Parkersburg News and Sentinel.
Huntington High’s Mallori Dunn-Martin broke the meet mark of 46.24 set by Doddridge County’s D’Andra Swiger in 2013. Dunn-Martin ran 45.77. Dunn-Martin, Milleah Johnson, Tamara Hamlin and Leilani Bounds combined to run 1:06.10 in the shuttle hurdle relays, breaking the meet record of 1:06.61 established by Parkersburg in in 2023.

HUNTINGTON HIGH 4, OAK HILL 1: Junior pitcher Evan Childers struck out 16 batters to lead the Highlanders (2-5) to a 4-1 victory over the Red Devils at Marshall University’s Jack Cook Field.
Childers allowed six hits and walked two in six innings before Philip Legg hurled a scoreless seventh inning for a save.
Carson McDowell went 2 for 3 for the Highlanders.
William McGraw was 2 for 4 for Oak Hill (2-4).

CABELL MIDLAND 11, JOHN MARSHALL 6: The Knights (4-3) raced to an 8-0 lead in a triumph over the Monarchs.
Cabell Midland scored three runs in the first inning and five in the second. John Marshall tallied six runs in the third and the Knights three in the sixth.
Ethan Eaves and Owen Maynard each went 2 for 4 with two runs batted in for Cabell Midland. Eli McGinnis was 3 for 4 and Jason Berkenbaugh went 2 for 2. Maynard was the winning pitcher.
Mason Markonich was 2 for 4 with a pair of RBIs for John Marshall. Cain Martin went 2 for 3.

SPRING VALLEY WINS TWO: The Timberwolves defeated Morgantown 11-10 and Greenbrier East 8-7.
Jonah Harrold smacked a walk-off single to beat the Mohigans, who led 4-0 and 10-3. Brody Spencer hit a three-run homer, as well as a two-run single, for the Timberwolves (6-2). Cole Ferguson and Garrett Wagoner also hit home runs during the rally.
Spring Valley beat the Spartans despite being outhit 13-3. The contest was tied 7-7 before the Timberwolves scored on an error in the sixth inning to win it.
HUNTINGTON ST. JOE 11, SHERMAN 1: Brody Runyon struck out seven and allowed one hit in five innings as the Irish (6-0) beat the Tide (4-3) at the YMCA Kennedy Center.
David Beane went 2 for 4 and knocked in three runs. Brayden McDowell and Wyatt Pence each collected three hits. Cam Kellar was 2 for 4.
IRONTON 8, WEST JEFFERSON 7: Tanner Kleinman hit a two-run walk-off single to give the host Fighting Tigers (1-0) a win over the Roughriders (0-1) in the Mike Burcham Wood Bat Tournament.
FAIRLAND SPLITS: The Dragons defeated Portsmouth West 12-1 and lost to Lucasville Valley 5-2.
Kaden Wiseman smashed three hits in four at-bats with two RBIs for Fairland. Josh Gillespie was 3 for 4. Cyrus Cummings, Chase Lapole and Wyatt Thomas drove in two runs apiece. Wiseman struck out seven in four innings to earn the win.
The Senators fell to 0-2.
The Indians (2-0) scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to break a 2-2 tie and beat the Dragons (1-2).
Jaekyn Ridout went 2 for 2 and knocked in a pair of runs for Lucasville Valley. He also was the winning pitcher, allowing five hits, fanning two and walking one.
HURRICANE 6, INDEPENDENCE 3: The host Redskins (5-1) built a 6-0 lead and held off the Patriots (1-2) at Lola Meeks Field.
Hurricane scored three runs in the third inning. Tyler Baxter singled home Weston Smith in the fifth for a 4-0 advantage. Ryan Bowman followed with a two-run base hit for a 6-0 lead.
Independence scored three runs in the sixth inning.
GREEN 4, ROCK HILL 2: Jonathan Knapp threw a no-hitter, striking out 17 and walking one as the Bobcats (2-0) beat the Redmen (0-3) at the Rock Hill Wood Bat Tournament in Pedro, Ohio.
Knapp also went 3 for 4 with a triple and a double.
RIVER VALLEY 4, HANNAN 2: Tanner Young fanned 10 to lead the Raiders by the Wildcats in Bidwell, Ohio.
Young allowed five hits. John Chambers slapped two hits for River Valley.
WAHAMA 9, WIRT COUNTY 4: The White Falcons snapped a three-game losing streak with a win over the Tigers in Mason, West Virginia.
Seth Ohlinger plated three runs for Wahama (2-4). Hayden Lloyd and Eli Rickard each knocked in two. Lloyd swatted three hits. Rickard, Blake Henry and Harrison Lloyd totaled two hits apiece. Parker Fields earned the win.
Easton Wyer had a pair of hits for Wirt County. Alex Bevel drove in two runs.
Softball
HURRICANE 10, BELFRY 2: Jaden Jones used three hits to plate four runs as the Redskins beat the Pirates in Charleston.
Jones homered and tripled.
SYMMES VALLEY WINS TWO: The Vikings (5-1) beat Point Pleasant 6-0 and Independence 7-4.
In shutting out the Big Blacks, Marly Ferguson went 3 for 4 with a home run. Lindsey Freeman, Alyssa Waugh and Brenna Tibbs each were 2 for 4. Tibbs was the winning pitcher, holding Point Pleasant (6-1) to two hits.
Ferguson smacked three hits in four trips to the plate against the Patriots (9-1), who couldn’t hold a 2-0 lead. Emma Ridenour also was 3 for 4 and Tibbs went 2 for 3. Addy Hawk earned the win.
WHEELERSBURG 15, COAL GROVE 0: Ava Estep and Kaylynn Carter each knocked in a trio of runs as the visiting Pirates (2-0) clobbered the Hornets (1-2).
Carter, Estep and Laken Wright whacked two hits apiece. Carter whiffed eight and allowed one hit to pick up the win.
Mia Haynes singled to break up the no-hitter.
RIVER VALLEY 14, EASTERN MEIGS 8: Woota O’Bryan drove in three runs on two hits to help the Raiders beat the Eagles in Bidwell, Ohio.
Emma Somerville scored four runs and Kailyn Rife tallied three for River Valley. Somerville and Jacklynn Richards each knocked in two. Olivia Stidham smacked three hits. Somerville, Rife, Richards, O’Bryan and Katie Stout whacked two hits apiece. Marlana Forman was the winning pitcher.
For Eastern, Ashlynn Thomas, Rylie White and Elizabeth Putnam drove home two runs apiece. Putnam walloped four hits. Thomas, Putnam and Emma Semlesburger knocked two hits apiece.
MEIGS 9, ADENA 3: Adrien Kinnan was 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs for the Marauders (4-1).
Jordin Davenport went 2 for 3 and drove in two. Natalie Goode went 4 for 4 with two RBIs and struck out nine Warriors to earn the win.
Adelynn Nelson went 3 for 4 with a homer and two RBIs for Adena.
Basketball
BACF CLASSIC: Ohio swept both games of the Battle Against Cystic Fibrosis Classic Saturday at Parkersburg South High School.
The Buckeye boys won 169-130 as Marietta’s Brayden Jones scored 24 points, Warren’s Julian Stadleman netted 30 and Fairland’s Brody Buchanan added 29. Gallia Academy’s Cade Mock scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Marietta’s Junior Bass and Monroe Central’s Chance Allen netted 16 points and Warren’s Connor Barry pitched in 13.
Parkersburg South’s Navi Hewitt led West Virginia with 19 points. Bridgeport’s Landon Sanders and Jack Spatafore each tallied 17 points, as did Nate Rodriguez of Parkersburg. St. Marys’ Ryan Kent scored 13. Cabell Midland’s Ethan Blackburn and Bridgeport’s Phoenix Sickles each scored 10.
Belpre’s Haley Alloway led the Ohio girls with 19 points in an 84-73 triumph. Marietta’s Leigha Lauer contributed 15 points.
Sissonville’s Kynadee Britton led West Virginia with 14 points. Nitro’s Natalie Smith chipped in 12 points.
