Peta Credlin has urged voters not to buy into Labor's budget spin, stating the government's record was a "mark of shame" in Sky News Australia's pre-Budget analysis coverage.
Peta Credlin has urged voters not to buy into Labor’s budget spin, stating the government’s record was a “mark of shame”.
Credlin predicted Treasurer Jim Chalmers would try to claim the Albanese government improved Australia’s fiscal outlook, despite their additional revenue being the “result of good luck”.
“Any improvement in the budget bottom line is the result of good luck, rather than good management: an entirely fortuitous $250 billion revenue windfall based on short term boosts to commodity prices largely the gas and coal exports that, long-term, Labor wants to ban,” Credlin said.
“What he won’t tell you, is that thanks to Labor’s profligate spending… there’s now debt and deficits stretching out as far as the eye can see.”
Nationals Senator Bridget McKenzie has torn into Labor’s energy policy as the Albanese government will extend its power bill relief until the end of 2025 in Tuesday’s budget.
“Let’s not kid ourselves here. Labor is not solving the primary problem which is the increasing energy prices, instead they’re essentially putting a band aid on a bullet wound,” Ms McKenzie told Sky News’ Chris Kenny.
“Consumers right across the country, businesses (and) households are bleeding out as a result of their energy policy.
“Until they address the problem at its source with an energy policy that is sensible rather than these pipe dreams you and I spoke about earlier, it’s not going to get any better.”

Chris Kenny declares Budget will be full of 'spin and fantasy' as Sky News rolling coverage begins
Sky News host Chris Kenny has declared the 2025 Budget will be full of “spin” and “fantasy” and anticipated the Albanese government will use the it to try and “buy votes” ahead of the upcoming election.
Kenny said there was “more spin” around recent budgets than reality – “more fantasy than facts”.
“The Albanese Labor government will deliver a budget that is in dire strife, it is in structural deficit, and they will have no plan to get back into surplus … and therefore no plan to make us more prosperous,” he said.

Sky News host Chris Kenny slams the Albanese Labor government’s “dire” budget release tonight.
“There was a time when budgets were about reality. On… budget night, we were given a series of figures and statistics that reflect the exact financial status of the government as well as the shape of the economy as the government detailed its plans to ensure we improve into the future,” Mr Kenny said.
“These days, there is more spin around budgets than reality, more fantasy than facts that will be on clear display tonight. The Anthony Albanese Labor government will deliver a budget that is in dire strife.”

The Australian Associate Editor Graham Lloyd warns off-budget measures such as the “forgiving” of student debut are pushing the deficit out to… “extraordinary levels”.
Education Minister Jason Clare advertised on Tuesday Labor's decision to wipe $3 billion off HECS debt.
“It’s probably unlikely there will be another budget,” Mr Lloyd told Sky News host James Macpherson.
“The bigger problem here is things like the forgiving of student debt … are all off-budget measures and as we’ve heard earlier, it’s those off-budget spending that are pushing the deficit out to extraordinary levels in the forward estimates.
“It’s muddied the way the budget is compiled.”

Treasurer Jim Chalmers addresses the media while in Brisbane to discuss the allowance and payments for those hit hardest by ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred… and its effect on the upcoming federal budget.
Mr Chalmers told reporters the “human” and “economic cost” will be a key influence on the upcoming federal budget.
“Treasury expects there will be about a $1.2 billion hit to economic output just as a consequence of XTC Alfred,” he said.
“We also anticipate that there will be some impact on fruit and vegetable costs depending on how much of the farmland has been impacted, but also when it comes to building and construction costs.”
Mr Chalmers has committed $1.2 billion of extra money to fund assistance and recovery initiatives after ex-tropical Cyclone Alfred damaged the east coast.
The initial assessment amounted to about a quarter of a percentage point of national GDP and will further compound pressures on inflation.

Sky News host Andrew Bolt says Anthony Albanese made a “fake promise” ahead of Tuesday’s budget which helps to explain why Australia is in “such strife,… getting poorer and deeper in debt”.
The Albanese government announced on Sunday an extension of energy rebates with another $150 in power bill relief until the end of 2025, costing the budget $1.8 billion over the forward estimates.
“What makes this con worse is that it's a handout to hide the utter failure of the government's global warming schemes,” Mr Bolt said.
“These Labor handouts – paid by you – are just Labor's compensation for Labor's incompetence. You'll pay higher power bills and now you are going to have to pay for the handouts.”
It has been claimed the policy will result in nine out of 10 GP visits being bulk billed by the end of the decade.

Health Minister Mark Butler claims for Labor bulk billing is the “beating heart of Medicare”.
“Bulk billing was in freefall when we came to government,” Mr… Butler told Sky News Australia.
“And that was clearly the product of a decision Peter Dutton took to freeze Medicare funding for six years.
“That’s why last weekend the Prime Minister and I announced the biggest investment in Medicare in its history to turn that bulk billing around.
“For Labor, bulk billing is the beating heart of Medicare.”
Mr Butler also denied Opposition Leader Peter Dutton’s claims of pork barrelling by Labor in a recent health announcement.
The Opposition Leader has accused the Albanese government of “pork barrelling” with their promise of 50 new urgent care clinics, as two-thirds of them are located in Labor electorates.
“It’s a beat-up,” Mr Butler told Sky News Australia.
Health Minister Mark Butler also recently announced $689 million to cap the cost of medicines on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme at $25.
