2022 Atlantic Hurricane Season Recap

Officially ending last Wednesday, the 2022 Atlantic Hurricane Season is behind us.

In spite of the hurricane season being an average one in terms of activity, coastal Mississippi was not affected by storms during the six-month season.

Neighbors to our east in Florida were not so lucky. Two hurricanes, Ian and Nicole, devastated the Florida Peninsula earlier this year.

With the season not even a week behind us, emergency management officials are already beginning work to prepare for next season. Harrison County EMA Director Matt Stratton said, “We took a look at our plans during the hurricane season. Now we’re in the process of updating those plans. One of the things we need to take a look at is our evacuation zones. We need to see if there is a more efficient, effective way we can update those evacuation zones.”
