By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Prime Minister John Briceno says that on Friday, November 25, 2022, he met with Venezuelan President, Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela where they discussed the close relations between the two countries.
A joint communique was signed confirming cooperation in areas of health, housing, regional cooperation and education, among others.
This is the first visit by a Prime Minister of Belize since President Maduro succeeded the late Hugo Chavez.
Venezuela has long provided substantial support to Belize, particularly through PetroCaribe, a program which President Maduro has pledged to restart.
In the context of Hurricane Lisa, Venezuela has agreed to debt relief under the PetroCaribe Programme.
Both leaders celebrated the record of bilateral cooperation and resolved anew to collaboration.
