Tropical Storm Kyle is set to bring heavy downpours to Liverpool this week, making last week's heatwave a distant memory.

The UK is in the path of the tropical storm, which is set to bring days of thunderstorms and torrential rain to the country.

Storm Kyle formed in the Atlantic last week and has been sweeping across the USA and reached its peak in the Atlantic on August 15 where winds of 50mph hit.

It was named Kyle by the National Hurricane Centre in the US and according to The Weather Channel is the earliest "K" storm in history - breaking the previous record set by the infamous Katrina in 2005.

The remnants of the 900 mile wide storm will get caught up in the jet stream and bring stormy conditions to the UK - r eports Mirror Online.

Thursday will see the introduction of strong wind and downpours - with August to then remain wet and windy, according to The Met Office.

Meteorologist Marco Petagna said: “Remnants of tropical storms can get caught in the jet stream and bring premature autumnal weather to the UK.
