Tropical Storm Karen became slightly stronger Thursday, but forecasters said the system was expected to turn toward the northeast before becoming a remnant low over the weekend.
Karen had maximum sustained winds of 40 mph as it moved to the northeast about 350 miles south-southeast of Bermuda, according to the 11 p.m. update from the National Hurricane Center in Miami.
No coastal watches or warnings were in effect.
NHC forecasters said Karen will turn northeast but is expected to weaken by the weekend and become a remnant low.
Meanwhile, "extremely powerful" Hurricane Lorenzo strengthened slightly more on Thursday night with 145 mph winds, according to the latest NHC advisory. It was moving north-northwest about 1,660 miles southwest of the Azores.
No coastal watches or warnings were in effect for Lorenzo, but swells generated by the Category 4 hurricane was likely to effect parts of the Windward Islands and the northeastern coast of South America.
