Florence projected to become major hurricane by Monday
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – With a State of Emergency declared for South Carolina and North Carolina, National Hurricane Center (NHC) is advising states along the east coast of the United States to closely monitor Florence.
The latest 11 p.m. report from NHC shows Florence on the verge of becoming a hurricane with 70 mph winds recorded and is expected to strengthen rapidly on Sunday.
The current forecast track for Florence shows the center move over the southwestern Atlantic Ocean between Bermuda and the Bahamas Tuesday and Wednesday, and approach the southeastern U.S. coast on Thursday.
Florence is projected to become a major hurricane by Monday, according to meteorologists at the National Hurricane Center.
“Swells generated by Florence are affecting Bermuda and are beginning to reach portions of the U.S. East Coast,” National Hurricane Center stated on Saturday.
“These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.”
NHC has also upgraded tropical depression nine to Tropical Storm Isaac on Saturday.
Isaac is expected to grow into a hurricane by Monday and impact the Leeward Islands by Thursday.
NHC reports Isaac carrying 50 mph winds and moving to the west at 8 mph.
