KUALA LUMPUR — The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning on tropical storm Kai-Tak for Saturday (Dec 23).
In a statement, MetMalaysia said the storm was expected to hit several states in the country.
"There is a probability that the Kai-Tak will hit the East Coast states."
"Based on weather forecasts, the storm is expected to be weaker and turn into a tropical depression with the wind speed of 50kph," MetMalaysia said.
It also said there were possibilities that the storm would hit Kelantan and central Terengganu on Saturday.
"At the same time, the Tembin tropical storm which has just formed at 8.1°North 128.7°East is expected to move to the west with the speed of 20kph.
"This will cause strong winds exceeding 50kph with a wave height of more than 3.5 metres at Sabah's northern waters," the statement said.
